High-Conflict Separation and Divorce Consultant
"My life position revolves around not trying to catch up with lost time but rather making sure no more time is lost"
Rosana Khan is the founder, owner, and operator of Separation and Divorce Consulting in Victoria, British Columbia.
Rosana had firsthand experience managing her high-conflict divorce in 2001, ultimately being self-represented and obtaining full, primary parenting of her two small children. This challenging experience led Rosana down the path of helping others who were experiencing difficult separations and, ultimately, child protection.
Rosana returned to school in 2004 to obtain a degree in Child and Youth Care with a specialization in Child Protection. Rosana graduated in 2007 with distinction.
Rosana has 18 years of experience working with children, youth, and families in Family Law matters. Employed as a social worker with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Rosana has managed high-conflict individuals for the majority of her career. Facilitating Family Group Conferences and building relationships during traumatic events inspired Rosana to seek a path of further education. During her social work career, Rosana has received training in:
> Assessing Domestic Violence > Assessing Domestic Violence by Proxy > Trauma Informed Practice
> Problematic and Poly Substance > Assessing Child Safety > Step-wise Interviewing (children Misuse and youth)
> Co-parenting, parallel parenting, > Suicide Intervention and Prevention > Truth and Reconciliation
and conflict parenting plans
> Professional Conduct Training > Code of Ethics and Standards > Reintegration of Offenders into the Family
> Documenting as a Witness > Family Group Conferencing > Integrated Case Management
In 2022, Rosana successfully trained for and completed her Divorce Coach Certification at The Institute of Professionals Association.
In 2022, Rosana completed training in managing high-conflict individuals, becoming certified as a High-Conflict Separation and Divorce Consultant in California.
In 2023, Rosana continued her education as an Advanced Family Mediator through the Justice Institute of BC and Family Mediation Canada.
Rosana passionately believes parents are the experts on their children's and family's needs. After separation, communication tends to break down despite parents who have agreed or believed that if they ever separated, it would be amicable. It is traumatic for all family members when they suddenly find themselves in the position of being unable to communicate with their 'ex' effectively. Mediation provides a platform for guided conversations aimed at reaching a mutually agreed-upon consent agreement and ensuring the best interests of their children, as applicable. Competing interests can be challenging to manage without a neutral third party to facilitate understanding of each other's positions. Mediation provides a safe and open opportunity to make decisions that are right for you and your family. Mediation offers you the opportunity to make your own decisions, rather than a stranger (judge/arbitrator). Rosana's approach to facilitating mediation is inclusive of:
> Maintaining your children's best interests at all times > Screening for power imbalances and domestic violence
> Building respectful communication and boundaries > Facilitating positive and forward-moving dialogue
> Remaining a neutral/impartial third party > Respecting cultural differences

A separation and divorce consultant is a well-known practice throughout the United States, but is a relatively new practice in Canada. Divorce Consultants wear many hats throughout the lifetime of a client's case or court process. Rosana can work alongside your legal team; however, generally, the work with Rosana is done one-to-one.
Oftentimes, when you are divorcing a high-conflict individual, there are threats to your relationship with your children, threats of financial ruin, high costs of litigation/legal counsel, and a daunting process to just come up for some air amongst the crazy making and manipulation by your ex. Rosana works alongside you every step of the way, from teaching you how to document, creating texts and emails that are void of emotion so as not to create further conflict, creating parenting plans, financial analysis, assisting with the process of completing court forms or affidavits, and the list goes on. Rosana has first-hand knowledge of the battle and war when it comes to managing high-conflict individuals, not only with her own divorce, but also supporting her life partner through his high-conflict divorce. Walking through the fires of the divorce process is difficult enough; doing so with a high-conflict individual feels impossible.
Rosana's primary role when working as a consultant is to be your strategy partner in every corner of your divorce. With this in mind, Rosana requires 100% transparency, honesty, and responsiveness from her clients. This ensures Rosana is working for the right side of the team, not the high-conflict individual. Rosana carries no judgment from past mistakes and focuses only on having the voices heard of the people whose rights are being ignored, trampled on, and forgotten. Whether it's your lawyer who does not seem to be working very hard for you, your ex using the court system inappropriately, or a situation that seems too much for you to bear, Rosana can methodically walk you through the process to bring clarity and relief.
With deep passion and care, Rosana can assist you no matter what situation you are in. Reach out today to see if a consultant is right for you!
"Rosana Khan is a graduate of the High Conflict Divorce Consulting Certification Program. This eight-week, intensive course focuses on the difficult dynamics of high-conflict divorce and child custody battles. Our program focuses on the intricacies of post-separation abuse, and our consultants are trained that it only takes one toxic, abusive, or personality-disordered individual to create a high-conflict situation. Rosana Khan will be an amazing resource and advocate for those attempting to navigate the family court system. It was an honor to have Rosana Khan in our program, and I look forward to cheering her on in her advocacy work."
